Audio Engineering Diploma

This two-year programme is designed to give you all the tools required to make music from the most minimal setup.

The emphasis is on practical results, beyond plain academic knowledge, to actually being able to create music and eventually turn it into a career.

While you learn elements of sound engineering, song-writing, and music business, and gain specific knowledge of industry-standard music software and hardware equipment, the most important outcome will be a better understanding of what it really takes to make music. Investing in this course will save you from expensive mistakes when buying equipment and software, and will give you the knowledge that would have otherwise taken many years to build learning from magazines, books and experience.

£10,330 (part-time) and £16,810 (full-time)

Pass criteria

In order to obtain an Audio Engineering Diploma Certificate, you must complete the following five courses with a minimum score of 80%

Music Production 101: Essentials (18 weeks - 8 credits)

Everything you need to know in order to start producing music at a professional level, including making beats, subtractive synthesis, sampling, midi, mixers and effects, and the nature of sound. You'll also cover the basics of microphones, and an introduction to music business. This module includes the Apple Certified Logic 101 training programme, also available separately. Logic Pro is used to record, edit and mix.

Sound Engineering (18 weeks - 8 credits)

Working with other musicians you'll cover advanced microphone techniques, recording vocals, drums and guitars. You'll also learn all about studio wiring, signal routing and studio etiquette, and get to grips with Logic and Pro Tools for multi-track recording.

DAW for music and post-production (18 weeks - 8 credits)

In-depth training on Pro Tools and other commonly used Digital Audio Workstations. Master all the major platforms, work with anyone without fear of unfamiliar equipment

Advanced Studio Techniques (12 weeks - 4 credits)

While having a good song, a good performance and a good recording remains the essential recipe for success, there are a lot of other little things that, summed together, can turn something good in to something great. Being able to make this difference is what makes certain producers and engineers so in demand, and learning these skills is crucial to your development in music production.

Advanced Mixing: The Art & Science of Mixing (12 weeks - 4 credits)

Sometimes reading manuals and understanding every single function of your software is still not enough. Without the guidance of an experienced mentor it might take years to figure out the most obvious truths. This course illustrates step-by-step how a mixing engineer approaches a job and helps you develop a method that can be applied to any mixing environment and musical style. During the course you will test your mixing skills with your own material and commercial tracks provided by us.

The value of LSS Certification

London School of Sound is a private college and the certificates we award are recognised around the world, thanks to the reputation we have built as a professional training institution.

Existing accreditation bodies often have little real value with respect to music production. In contrast, we develop our curriculum and certification system to reflect the skills actually needed in the creative industries and in the music industry in particular. However, as a consequence our accreditation system cannot be considered equivalent to any type of formal qualification in the UK or abroad.

This means credits gained from our courses cannot be used towards a degree, nor can they be used as an equivalent to GCSE, A Level or University Degree.

As an Apple Authorized Training Centre we award certificates on behalf of Apple, limited to the Apple Logic Pro Training Programme. These are accepted and recognised by every other Apple Training Centre in the world.
