Music Production Summer Camp

learn Ableton Live 7learn music production with Reason 4While others get sunburn on crowded beaches, while there's noting to watch on tv anyway...
Why not make the best of these lazy months and get some serious skills?
See what you can learn in six weeks of intensive play.

Who should attend this course

Anyone with a keen interest in music production, and who prefers an intensive, hands-on training method.
This course is perfect for a complete beginner but it will be also very effective for anyone with some self-taught knowledge of Reason, Fruity Loops, Cubase, Pro Tools. The inclusion of advanced elements of synthesis/sound design with Reason and interactive performance with Live makes this course precious also for those who already work in the industry.

Music styles

This course is particularly suited to those interested in all forms of electronic music (including House, Techno, and Hip-Hop).
The topics covered will also apply to any combination of electronic and pop/folk/rock –imagine people like Beck, Bjork, N.I.N... – and for the pure experimentalists out there. If you have some doubts as to whether this would be the best course for your favourite style of music, don't hesitate to contact the LSS and discuss your case.

What will you have learned

By the end of the sixth week you will have a full working knowledge of the software used and the sound engineering background to understand most synthesizers, mixer, recording and studio equipment. Working on real-life projects you will have proved to yourself that you can take a project from zero to CD, creating beats, finding samples, creating your own instruments and sounds, using the right effects and compression to get to a finished mix, and learning a few extra things on the way (how to DJ with Live, a bit of music business, fundamentals of music theory, and more bits and pieces). The most important aspect of a course at the London School of Sound is that you don't learn just how to use a software (anyone could do it with a lot of patience and a lot of manual reading) but you develop an understanding of the production skills required to get the sound you want.

How does this course compare to other courses at the London School of Sound?

This course has many elements in common with the full Music Production 101 module, but it's also very different: the MP101 is 18 weeks long and besides arrangement & programming it covers more elements of sound engineering, acoustics, music business. Also, the MP101 includes the Apple Authorized course on Logic Pro 8, but it does not cover Ableton Live. So the combination of Reason and Ableton Live makes the Music Production Summer Camp more suited to DJ and producers of electronic music where instead the MP101 is structured to be the first step of a longer Diploma based on Logic Pro (and later, Pro Tools).

Certificates and integration in the LSS Diploma courses

Successful completion of the Music Production Summer Camp is awarded with a certificate of attendance. If you decide to continue studying at the LSS and want to have this course counted towards a Professional or Diploma certificate, you will need to attend a shorter integrative course and pass an entrance test, leading towards a MP101 certificate and access to the advanced modules of the Diploma courses*.
